Environment Summer Internship
ENVIRONMENT SUMMER INTERNSHIP
3 MONTHS (JUNE – AUGUST 2018)
Based Gravesend, Kent
In 2017 the PLA launched the first Air Quality Strategy for the Tidal Thames. The strategy was developed with stakeholders and identifies a number of actions that need to be completed in order to drive improvements in emissions from the marine traffic using the river, while improving growth. Some of these actions include the development of guidance, monitoring and research. The 2018 intern will be with the Environment Team at the PLA for three month placement where they will be responsible for the completion of two of guidance documents;
- Encourage freight service on the river
TfL, GLA and PLA to engage in order to ensure that Construction Logistics Guidance actively encourages the use and development of freight services on the river, reducing the need to move freight by road and contributing to TfL’s plans to reduce peak time freight movements on the road by 10%
- Guidance for developers
PLA to engage with operators to encourage best practice by developing operator guidance for inland fleet using lessons learnt from international shipping and existing practices.
They will also assist the team with a number of the monitoring projects and stakeholder engagement during the placement.
Any applicant of preferably graduate level needs to have some understanding, demonstrated in their experience or studies of the topics, transport and air quality. A strong understanding in one topic, with a general understanding in the other would be acceptable.
The intern will be developing the guidance on their own, influencing partners in external organisation to make sure that the guidance is appropriate and useable. Therefore they will need good organisational, time management and planning and communication skills.
If you are interested in applying, please send your CV and a covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org before the closing date of Friday 13th April 2018.
