Incident in Gravesend Reach - 15 November - UPDATE

At 6.00 am this morning the bulk carrier Amber, leaving Tilbury Power Station suffered engine failure. The vessel subsequently went aground upstream of the PLA’s Denton Wharf base, having struck several moorings to which barges and tugs were secured.
The Port of London Authority (PLA) is managing the response to the incident from its London Port Control Centre at Gravesend. A PLA harbour service launch is on scene along with members of the PLA Marine Services team who are in the process of re-securing a barge and tugs which came adrift.
Low water was at 8.00 am; it is hoped to re-float the vessel on the rising tide and recover her to a safe berth.
No one was injured in the incident, there are no reports of pollution and the river remains open to shipping.
Update at 9.30 am

Bulk carrier Amber re-floated at 8.45 am, was recovered by two tugs and berthed alongside Tilbury Landing Stage; she will move into Tilbury Dock for inspection and repairs this afternoon.

The tugs and barge which were adrift earlier have been secured and are awaiting inspection.
