PLA Chairman Awarded a DBE

Port of London Authority chairman, Helen Alexander, was awarded a DBE for services to business in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours.

Dame Helen Alexander has been chairman of the PLA, the organisation that oversees the tidal Thames, since January 2010.  The river is home to the UK's second largest port, busiest inland waterway for freight, growing commuter and tourism services and is the crucible for the UK's rowing talent.

President of the CBI from May 2009 to May 2011, Dame Helen was previously chief executive of the Economist Group. Dame Helen is currently chair of Incisive Media and a non-executive director of Rolls-Royce plc and Centrica plc.  She was awarded the CBE in 2004 for services to publishing.
