Pilotage Support Officer


Based at Gravesend, Kent

Starting Salary: £41,135 per annum

About Us

The Port of London Authority (PLA) is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames from the outer estuary to Teddington. As part of our duties under the Port Marine Safety Code, we manage and maintain the port’s navigational safety management system.

The Role

As part of the Chief Harbour Master’s team, reporting to the Marine Pilotage Manager you will provide general support to the Deputy Marine Pilotage Manager (DMPM). You will also provide statistical and performance analyses, deliver management reports, maintain records and agree Pilot Payroll variables.

You will be required to liaise with the Pilots, other departments and Suppliers reference equipment for pilots such as VHF radios, PPE, iPads and pilot navigation software on iPads. The role includes supervision of the Pilot Co-ordinators and an Assistant Pilotage Support Officer.

The Person

The successful candidate will have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and I.T. support software. Experience of Marine or Port operations is preferred with good analytical skills. We require a resilient person with good communication skills and flexible attitude to work as part of a small team that may on occasion be expected to work off site.
