Based in Gravesend, Kent

Starting Salary: £33,227 per annum

As the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames, the PLA grants licences for all structures and dredging, in, on, over and under the River. The Licensing Manager, to whom this post reports, administers the processes involved with the processing of applications and the determination and issue of licences.

The main functions of the role are to identify unlicensed works in, on or over the tidal Thames, and to investigate and establish the ownership of the works. The role will also identify non compliance with licensed works and undertake the appropriate enforcement actions.

The successful applicants will be educated to degree level. Relevant further education and/or professional qualifications are desirable. You will have good administrative skills and experience, a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. A problem solver and an ability to think laterally are key requirements for this post. Experience of the Court system and enforcement would be a distinct advantage. You must also be able to work unsupervised and on your own initiative.

Excellent communication skills are essential for dealing with enquiries from the public, applicants, and external and internal consultees. Additionally you must be able to foster and develop relationships with these stakeholders, often over long periods. An ability to interpret technical drawings and documents would be desirable.
