Harbour Master (Upper)

Overview


The harbour masters are responsible for ensuring compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC), ensuring the safety of navigation for all mariners in the Port of London, enforcing the rules and regulations and leading on Port Security and Emergency and Resilience Planning for the PLA.

The HM team is also responsible for Richmond Lock & Weir, the Harbour Service and Pilot Cutter crew and operations and marine incident investigations.
Our professional team manages safety and navigation on 95 miles of the River Thames.
Our Boating on the Thames website provides guidance and advice to assist recreational users in navigating the tidal Thames.
The PLA owns and operates Richmond Lock and Weir, which is also the base for the Upper River Harbour Service patrols between Putney and Teddington Lock.
