Introduction The Port of London Authority (PLA), as a Statutory Harbour Authority, has a primary responsibility to facilitate the safety of navigation and associated marine operations on the tidal Thames. The Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) requires the PLA to maintain a dedicated Marine Safety Management System (SMS), for marine operations, within the port. This challenge was supported by the PLA in celebration of the Authority's Centenary. A team of eight, including six PLA staff, aimed to conquer the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales over a three-day period which saw them travel almost 1300 miles and scale a combined height of 3407 metres.
