Organisation Structure - Director of Marine Operations - Peter Steen
Peter Steen was appointed Director of Marine Operations in November 2009. Peter joined the PLA in 1989 as a duty officer at the Thames Barrier Navigation Centre after 17 years at sea, during which he experienced life on board vessels as varied as general cargo and bulk carriers on deep sea routes, inshore survey vessels, dive support craft, and tugs in the North Sea oil fields. Peter later moved to the Salvage Team and was appointed Marine Services Manager, overseeing the PLA's diving, salvage, and oil spill clearance operations, in 1996. In March 2009 he was appointed Marine Pilotage Manager, responsible for 90 Thames pilots who guide 11,000 vessels in and out of the river each year. |
