Harbour Masters

The PLA's Harbour Masters oversee navigational safety on the River.

Chief Harbour Master
David Snelson

The Chief Harbour Master has overall responsibility for navigational safety on the tidal Thames.

Working for him are a group of harbour masters and deputy harbour masters, all of whom are experienced mariners.

To better handle the different activities on the River, they are divided into two teams;

 

 

 

 

 

 


The Lower District team

Assisted by their Harbour Service staff, who provide a 24-hour, 365-day presence on the Thames, Roy and Chris are responsible for navigational safety in the PLA's Lower District, which extends from Crossness to the outer Thames Estuary.

David, Terry and David are responsible for navigational safety in the PLA's Upper District, which extends from Crossness to Teddington. Alex looks after leisure users specifically between Putney and Teddington.
