Safeguarded WharvesThe PLA is actively engaged with the Mayor of London in supporting the ‘safeguarding’ of riverside wharves from redevelopment into non-port use. This is an important policy, consistent with continued moves towards sustainable development, that will ensure that development on the Thames continues to be balanced across freight, residential and leisure uses. The Mayor has recommended the following safeguarding policy:
The PLA also strongly supports the ‘reactivation strategy’ to bring back into use some currently unused wharves. This follows a marketing exercise led by the PLA. The three wharves chosen to be brought back into use first are:
