Bankside Frost Fair

The Bankside Frost Fair is a re-enactment of the age-old fairs that used to take place on the Thames when it regularly used to freeze over before London Bridge was widened in 1815.  The Fair was re-established by Southwark Council in 2003 to celebrate the history and culture of the Bankside area with local people and visitors and to create what has become London’s biggest, award winning festive event.

The 2007 Fair took place from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th December and featured a procession of Thames Waterman's Cutters in full ceremonial livery on Saturday. There was also husky dog sledding, a winter market of over 70 stalls, music, entertainment, street theatre, ice sculptures, marquees serving mulled wine and ale plus festive food to keep visitors warm and a lantern parade with local school children on the Friday.

The 2008 Frost Fair will be held on Friday 12th to Sunday 14th December. Further details will appear here when these are available from the organisers.
