Gravesend Summer RegattaOrganised by the Gravesend Regatta Committee, the Gravesend Summer Regatta takes place in June each year just off the Gravesend Riverside. The 2008 event is on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June. On Saturday the men's and ladies crews will be battling for the Points Trophies with a winners ceremony at the end of the day Sunday morning's programme will see the men's teams rowing from Gravesend to the Higham Buoy and back to Gravesend. The race is approximately seven miles and takes just over an hour. In the afternoon, the junior rowers will be in action. Teams of similar ages row the length of the promenade from the Canal Basin back down to the New Bridge. Their prizes and certificates are presented to them that afternoon. Children's entertainers, a fun fair and bouncy castle, stalls and food and drink will all be available on the promenade. Sunday's event also has live entertainment from local singer Gary O'Connor and dance from groups in Gravesham.
