Intertidal EcologyA large amount of marine biological data is available for the Thames Estuary. The main data sources used for the Baseline Maintenance Dredging study were marine ecological surveys carried out to inform the London Gateway Environmental Impact Assessment. These provide a comprehensive coverage of the study area. A number of other data sources on the estuary also exist such as the Environment Agency Thames Benthic Monitoring Programme, established in 1989. The wealth of information available allowed for both an overview of the intertidal ecology and the subtidal ecology of the Thames Estuary to be made.
