Rainham Silt Lagoons - Key Stakeholders

The table below provides a summary of the key stakeholders with an interest in Rainham Silt Lagoons. The successful delivery of the Operations Plan relies on the continual involvement of these organisations.

Responsibility or Interest

Environment Agency

Responsible for flood risk management and licensing of water abstraction. It is also concerned with water quality, conservation, recreation and licensing discharges.

RSPB

Leaseholder from MOD for Averley and Wennington Marshes and the Silt Lagoons. Manages that part of the Inner Thames Marshes SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

Natural England

Responsible for nature conservation within the SSSI.

Port of London Authority (PLA)

Holder of a 50-year licence from the RSPB for disposal of dredgings at the Silt Lagoons.

Westminster Dredging

Current operator of the Silt Lagoons under contract from the PLA.

Violia Cleanaway (UK) Ltd.

Owner and manager of the landfill site to the south of the Lagoons.
