Re-positioning of Chiswick Bridge Rowing Crossing Point The crossing point for rowing boats in the vicinity of Chiswick Bridge, will be repositioned as part of the PLA & TRRC's ongoing work to improve the safety and ease of navigation for rowers in the area covered by the code of practice for rowing as promulgated by NTM U15 of 2006. The re-positioning will occur on or about the 30th of July - this Wednesday.
Currently the crossing zone's upstream edge is approximately 25m upstream of the Ship Inn. This edge will be moved downstream to be in line with the leaning metal pile (with the yellow stripe on it) in front of the Stag Brewery. This re-positioning will be marked by the moving of the Ship Inn buoy from its current position to parallel with the leaning metal pile. The Bull's Alley buoy will not be moved from its current position.
The re-positioning of the crossing point is for two main reasons. Firstly, to increase the amount of room for crews wishing to spin between the restricted zone under Chiswick Bridge and the start of the crossing zone. Secondly, to ensure crossing crews have finished crossing before reaching the spit of land around the outfall at the Ship Inn.
