PLA Colour Charts

The PLA has been re-compiling its series of A0 1:2500 scale charts into A2 size 1:5000 colour charts more suitable for navigational use. These will be issued as two folios of charts, covering Teddington to Putney (charts 301 - 312) and Battersea to Woolwich (charts 313 - 323).  The Wandsworth to Woolwich folio was published in April 2009 and the Teddington to Putney folio is now available. 

In order to support effective passage planning, the PLA recommends that, where the size and construction of the vessel allows, all commercial, inland waterways vessels carry the largest, appropriate scale of chart for their area of operation.

In addition, and in order to meet the requirements of the national Fitness for Purpose Standard and the forthcoming Inland Waterways Freight Vessel (Technical) Standards for Newbuild Vessels, it will now be a requirement for all such vessels licensed by the PLA to carry suitable charts.

Chart updates will be made available on this website, major corrections and new surveys will result in a re-print of the relevant chart. Operators are encouraged to apply for an annual maintenance contract, costing £9 per folio, whereby they will get email notification of corrections and any reprints during the period.

These A2 colour charts will now replace the exisiting A0 1:2500 scale charts from Teddington to Woolwich.  The PLA will continue to publish the larger scale A0 charts from Woolwich to Southend (charts 324 - 387). The chart areas have remained unchanged so click on the map below to find the chart area and number you are interested in. Individual charts cost £16 each and are available from the PLA's Hydrographic Service (see below).

Examples of charts are available for viewing on PLA Harbour Service craft and major operators' offices.

Folios currently available from the PLA Hydrographic Service are:

Folio 1:Teddington to Putney - £48.00 each plus P&P.

Folio 2: Battersea to Woolwich - £50.00 each plus P&P.

Postage and packing (UK addresses only) £6.00 for up to 4 folios. Postage and packing costs for overseas addresses are available on request.
