The Port of London Authority (PLA) has arranged a consultation session on Tuesday 20th September about our proposals for the improvement and environmental stewardship of Oliver’s Ait.

Oliver’s Ait is a heavily wooded island that the PLA owns located just upriver of Kew rail bridge and opposite Strand on the Green.

The consultation will take the form of a drop-in session, starting at 2.00 pm and continuing until 8.00 pm on Tuesday, 20 September. It will be held in the meeting hall at Chiswick Pier Trust, The Pier House, Corney Reach Way, London, W4 2UG.

Plans covering the principal elements of the proposed works will be available:

  • Civil engineering works to reconstruct the failing revetment wall
  • Tree management to ensure the health and long-term future of trees on the island
  • Habitat improvement and maintenance

These plans have been developed over the last eight months and are based on surveys of the physical condition of habitat on the Ait.  Groups working on these studies included the PLA’s civil engineering team, PLA’s environment team, London Wildlife Trust, and tree experts Bartlett’s who undertook the management for the PLA owned tow path between Beverley Brook and Kew.

Each group visited and assessed the site as they developed their understanding of the Ait and planned the work that needs to be done.  Representatives of the organisations will be on hand at the consultation session to discuss the plans, answer any questions and take your suggestions.

We will finalise the plans for the various works on the Ait after this September consultation session. The first works on site will commence with tree works during the autumn.
