The PLA's Pageant
'The PLA's Pageant' is an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes insight into the biggest event ever staged on the tidal Thames – the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant. This 40 minute film documents the PLA's work to plan, prepare and co-ordinate the safety of the Royal spectacular which involved 1,000 boats and 20,000 people.
The event, which was nearly two years in the planning, was devised by the Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation. But responsibility for ensuring the procession’s smooth running fell to the PLA, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, RNLI, police, fire brigade, passenger boat operators, Environment Agency, ambulance service, and specialists from the recreational boating world.
The film records history being made. It follows the crews who laid the moorings, the teams who planned for and practiced the event, and the hundreds of PLA staff who ensured pageant boats arrived, participated and got away safely on the day itself. This DVD is a ‘must have’ for fans of Royalty, pageant spectators and participants alike.
The DVDs cost £9.99 each, with £3 from every sale going to support the charitable work of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.
