More than 500 tonnes of assorted rubbish - from plastic bottles and traffic cones to shopping trolleys and bicycles – “migrates” into the River Thames each year and is cleared by the PLA's driftwood crews.
Supported by the tug 'Impulse', the PLA's two specialist driftwood collection craft, ‘Driftwood II’ and ‘Driftwood III’, are permanently employed on this work. This is done in association with the environmental charity Thames 21 and supports its work in cleaning up the foreshore of the Thames.
