Marine Services - Driftwood ServiceBack to Overview Marine Services More than 500 tonnes of assorted rubbish - from plastic bottles and traffic cones to shopping trolleys and bicycles – “migrates” into the River Thames each year and is cleared by the PLA's driftwood crews. The total amount removed during 2005 filled over 90 20’ ISO containers. The PLA has two specialist driftwood collection craft, ‘Driftwood II’ and ‘Driftwood III’, supported by the tug ‘Impulse’, which are permanently employed on this work in association with the environmental charity Thames 21 supporting its work in foreshore clean-ups along the Thames. |
