Ordering a PLA Pilot

Provisional orders are required for ALL piloted passages.

Where possible these should be provided 24 hours in advance of the estimated time of arrival or departure of the vessel and quote the location at which the pilot will be required, full details of the passage and the following information about the vessel:

  • IMO number
  • gross tonnage(gt)
  • length overall
  • operating draught
  • full manoeuvring speed

WARNING – vessels for which no provisional orders have been received will not be prioritised.

Initial orders for a PLA pilot are now required in hard copy.

A pro-forma is supplied for use when notifying pilotage requirements to London Port Coordination.  Agents/Owners/Operators are encouraged to use this to ensure all relevant information is supplied and maintained.  There are statutory requirements for giving notice of arrival, and use of this form will aid compliance.
