Recent surveys of Saundersness Shoal show some growth and movement of the sand waves which make up the shoal.
The shoal extends from Newcastle Drawdock to Millwall Wharf and grows into the marked navigation channel, reducing depths on the west side of the channel.
Least depths are in the vicinity of Plymouth Wharf.
The attached chartlet shows the hydrographic profile of the river bed with adjacent topography to allow river users to fix the position of the shoal.
The numbers marked over the sand waves are the depths in metres measured below chart datum at that position
There are considerably increased depths to the east of the shoal.
River users should note the recorded depths in the area and navigate with extreme caution on the west side of the channel during periods of low water and when negative surge tides are predicted.
London VTS broadcasts tide gauge readings for Silvertown during the routine river broadcasts at 15 and 45 minutes past each hour on VHF Channel 14.
Notice to Mariners No.16 of 2005 remains in force with the amended depths shown on the chartlet.
