On about 16 June 2008, for a period of about four years, redecoration work will take place on Tower Bridge. The work will be conducted from scaffolding suspended from the bridge.
Work will only be carried out in a single arch of Tower Bridge at a time.
Work in One and Three Arches
Only one of arches One and Three will be closed to navigation at a time.
Arches closed to navigation will be marked in accordance with the Port of London Authority River Byelaws 1978 (as amended) namely:

By day, three red discs 0.6 metres in diameter at the points of an equilateral triangle with the apex downwards and the base horizontal.

By night, three red lights in similar positions to the discs displayed by day.
Work in Two Arch
Between first week of September 2010 and the last week of February 2011 the bascules in Two Arch will remain closed and the headroom will be reduced by 1.5 metre (EG reduced to 7.1 metres above MHWS which is equal to the headroom in Cannon Street Railway Bridge).
When scaffolding is erected on the high level walkway the headroom, with the bascules open, will be reduced by 2.0m (EG reduced to 40.5m above MHWS).
When the headroom in Two Arch (bascule open or closed) is reduced it will be marked in accordance with the Port of London Authority River Byelaws 1978 (as amended) namely:

Persons in charge of vessels are to navigate with particular care and proceed at slow speed when passing the work.
