As part of the environmental monitoring campaign in relation to dredging and reclamation works for the London Gateway project twelve environmental monitoring stations will be established in an area bounding by Maplin Sands, Oaze restricted area and London Gateway site along the boundary of the dredging zone. Installation will commence on 15th September 2008. Environmental monitoring of the area will continue until mid 2013.

The monitoring equipment on the seabed will be marked by lit special mark buoys Fl Y 5 seconds.
Some of the monitoring stations will be relocated to new sites at 3 monthly intervals. Information on the latest positions can be obtained from London VTS and position changes will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF channels 68 & 69.
All vessels should endeavour to give the buoys a wide berth and proceed with caution when passing.
