Notice to Mariners

No.15 of 2008  Basic Pilotage Charge

Kindly be advised that with immediate effect the Draught Charge component of the Basic Pilot Charge will be on the greater of the Actual ship's draught or draught given by the agent in the Confirmation Correspondence.

This requirement seeks to reduce, and if possible remove, the inaccurate reporting of draughts.  The Master of the vessel should know his operating draught within a decimetre and the Agent is encouraged to consult the vessel prior to reporting draught to the PLA.

Inaccurate draught information can result in delays, not only to the ship with the inaccurately reported draught but also to other ships.   This is a particular risk when one large draught constrained ship takes the berth of a departing draught constrained ship as soon as the berth becomes vacant.

In extremis the wrong Class of Pilot can be despatched which can also result in a delay to the ship.

Please be aware that accurate draughts are essential if we are to avoid delays, your co-operation will be appreciated.

This notice supersedes NABSO No.8 of 2008 which is hereby cancelled.
