Cory Environmental: Making Waste Management Fun!

The latest edition to Cory Environmental’s fleet of tugs has become part of a world-famous tourist attraction! Made entirely from LEGO® bricks, the 1.3 metre replica of the Regain can be found at LEGOLAND® Windsor and forms part of the revamped Miniland exhibition, recreating London from 40 million LEGO bricks.

Miniland is LEGOLAND’s most popular area. For 2006 the capital has been brought up to date with the addition of famous landmarks including Canary Wharf, The Gherkin, The Lloyd’s Building, City Hall and the Millennium Bridge.

In keeping with scenes from the modern capital, the 1:20th scale Regain can be seen on the Thames pulling two miniature barges behind it.

Cory Chief Executive, Malcolm Ward, overseeing operations at LEGOLAND Windsor.Cory’s Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Ward is delighted that Cory can be a part of such an original exhibition. “The joy of Miniland is that it takes the everyday things that we see around us and makes them unique! Our tugs are a regular part of London’s scenery, but seeing one made entirely of LEGO is really quite special.”

The model Regain has been made from 12,000 LEGO bricks. Head model maker at LEGOLAND, Guy Bagley, explained the process involved in building the models. “It took us 44 hours to build the tugs and barges, or just over six days working flat out from 9am until 5pm. The 40,000 LEGO bricks that made up the tug and two barges were individually glued in place so that our younger visitors can’t dismantle them and build a spaceship out of the remaining LEGO bricks!"

“Even though I’m an industrial trained model maker, having built models for film and television, the most difficult part of the process was still the tug’s hull.”

Cory’s Regain can now be seen in action at LEGOLAND Windsor.
