Anyone wishing to search the tidal Thames foreshore in any way for any reason must hold a current foreshore permit from the Port of London Authority.
In the 16th century, a merchant ship sank to the bottom of the Thames where it lay undisturbed for 500 years. It was rediscovered by the Port of London Authority
