Environment Conferences & Webinars
The Port of London Authority hosts events devoted to the environment throughout the year, including the annual Environment Conference, annual Greening Inland Shipping Conference, and an Emission Reduction Workshop for Inland Operators on the tidal Thames, to share experiences and allow discussion among our stakeholders.
Thames Vision Environment Conferences
Catch up now. On 1 March 2022, the PLA hosted its 6th Environment Conference focusing on climate adaptation, where speakers from the Wildlife Trusts and RSPB, joined BPA and Lloyds Maritime Decarbonisation Hub to discuss the need to adapt while mitigating for climate impacts. The event was attended by 120 people.
In 2021 our annual environment conference was delivered as a series of three webinars, which ran on consecutive days from 16 to 18 March 2021 and were hosted by Tanya Ferry, the PLA's head of environment.
Our webinar series took delegates from the quayside to the container ship deck, the lifeboat station to riverside habitats. Touching on themes of sustainability, innovation & change and habitats, we welcomed 16 speakers over the three webinars and more than 300 people attended the sessions.
“The webinars were a great chance for people to catch up on Thames environmental developments and learn a lot in a short time,” explained Tanya. “The overwhelming sense that came across was the commitment to sustainability across the board. This is now mainstream business practice. Projects are being developed and delivered which will make a massive difference to the Thames and our collective future.”
‘What does Net Zero look like on the Tidal Thames for people, trade, ecology and transport?’
On Tuesday, 28 January 2020 PLA convened the fourth Tidal Thames Environment Conference at the Museum of London Docklands, where we explored the opportunities and challenges that the decarbonisation drive offers.
Initiated as part of the Thames Vision, this annual conference is part of the positive collaboration and sharing of lessons that is key to delivery of the Vision. This year we are asking the important question about a Net Zero Thames as we embark on work to scope how we at the PLA meet the Net Zero commitment.
Speakers covered new technologies with the potential for powering river transport, how river habitats can reduce environmental impacts and how valuing the environment can make significant differences.
Greening Inland Shipping Conferences
The annual event, started in 2019, is developed for all stakeholders interested in the greening of inland shipping operations.
In the past we have welcomed vessel operators, companies contracting for shipping operations, equipment manufacturers, policy makers, researchers & developers, monitoring service providers, and students and academics to attend and participate.
A year after the Thames’ first Greening Inland Shipping Conference & Exhibition, we gathered leading experts to examine progress, announced a #PledgetoNetZero and launched the Thames Green Scheme to encourage good environmental practice among inland operators.
The first Greening Inland Shipping exhibition and conference provided a unique platform in London for researchers, vessel operators and technology providers to come together. Together, we explored and exchanged on what is needed, and what existing, and what new technology can achieve. The free conference and exhibition was part of London International Shipping Week 2019.
