Draw-off extension

Image
Richmond Draw off with river drained down

We will be seeking an extension to this year’s annual draw off on the upper reaches of the tidal Thames, to allow for essential, additional maintenance to be completed at Richmond Lock & Weir.

Essential repairs to the central weir’s rotating mechanism are needed and Department for Transport (DfT) agreement will be sought for the draw off extension. Exact arrangements and timings for the draw off will be confirmed after further engineering study and DfT approval.

Our civil engineer, James Palmer, explains:

“Replacing the worn parts during an extended annual draw off will minimise inconvenience to river users. As soon as the dates are confirmed we will let river users know. We appreciate the understanding of both river users, and the local community, while we complete the work.”
