Renewable Energy

Reducing Carbon Emissions

Generating power from the sun and wind is now well established and helps reduce carbon emissions of power generation in the country even further. There are also more innovative ways to utilise the river for reducing emissions, if done responsibly and in the right places along the estuary.

On Riverside Structures

Using infrastructure on and along the Thames to host renewable energy generation.
Solar projects on the tidal Thames and estuary could help generate electricity. The solar potential along the river is high even in London with high buildings shading sites.
There are large scale wind farms at the entrance to the Thames and turbines also line the bank. Smaller turbines could be placed on structures in the river.

The Power of the Thames

The river has also has potential in either kinetic or thermal potential to provide energy saving solutions.

The river has been used to heat and cool buildings in London, but the river is also being affected by climate change and developments will be consented carefully.

Microgeneration of tidal energy could significantly contribute to the goal of transforming the Port of London to a low emission economy and environment.
